Personally, I have to admit that if I were part of the study I would probably fall along the same lines. In this case, my reasons have very little to do with politics or ideology, being republican or democrat, liberal or conservative, but looking at the tolls of the office. Here are pictures of the last two presidents from the start of their term and near the end. This is not to say that someone older cannot run, but I think that everyone should be realistic about how the stress of the office will take a toll on the health of that person, especially with everything that is happening today.

I think the lines are drawn between young and old voters. Young people poled largely vote for the younger candidate maybe hoping for philosophies in line with their thinking and older persons tend to cast their vote for the status quo perhaps for its containment of their life style. All in all the Presidential election is an emotional vote. The plumage is ALL that figures into it. My belief is that there is only a small percentage of 'informed voters' who have explored issues and stands of each and will cast a vote based upon a candidates proposed goverance. AND only 'mad dogs and Englishmen' would run for this position that devourers the winner.
If a constituent wants to make a real change in the policies that effect them, more progress will be made by keeping in touch regularly with local and state reps/congressmen/senators. At least that is the way the system is designed to work.

The article that you found, and the issue of ageism or racism that you bring up, is a very valid one. While we all have some types of prejudice, I wonder if labeling 'ageism' to McCain is truly a form of prejudice? Or is it a legit concern?
At his age, would he be able to handle the stress of the job, have the energy needed, and survive (at least) a four year term? Based on his fervent actions as a Senator, likely so, but I think it still is a valid concern. On the other hand, I don't know if there are legit arguments as to why Obama would not be able to handle being president because of his race.
Good find!
